United Methodist Women (UMW)
The organized unit United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
Our main purpose as United Methodist Women is to be mission-oriented, both locally and worldwide. UMW meets on the second Wednesday of the month, at 10:00 a.m. in the Social Hall. Craft workshops are held on the other Wednesdays, at 10 a.m. in the Social Hall. We have programs which encompass mission education, spiritual growth, and social action, with a focus on the needs of all members of the community. Our programs vary from meeting to meeting to include subject matter speakers and individual missions presentations.
Yearly events include the spring plant sale and the fall craft sale, in conjunction with the UMM’s yard sale and kids’ activities. These events are fundraisers for mission donations. UMW donates monies to a variety of local charities and global causes, as well as helping to defray expenses for church and parsonage needs. Additional mission funds are raised by the UMW’s catering team, which provides and serves dinners for retired teachers’ groups, funerals, and other requested events.
All women of St. Matthias are welcomed as UMW members. UMW participates through giving, prayer, study, action, and service.
Feel free to contact any of the officers below for information or if you wish to give a presentation.
