The organized unit United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose PURPOSE is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the Church.
Our main purpose of the UMW, is to be mission-oriented both locally and worldwide. UMW meets the third Tuesday of each month at 7 PM in the Room 10 of the church. We have programs which encompass mission education, spiritual growth and social action, with a focus on the needs of all members of the community. Our programs vary from meeting to meeting to include subject matter speakers, cooking demonstrations, and individual missions presentations.
Each year we have several events - UMW Plant Sale and Craft Fair in conjunction with the UMM Texas BBQ. Both events are fundraisers that allow us to continue our missions with St. Matthias UMC. Locally UMW donates to the United Methodist Family Services, Sunshine Basket Project, FredCamp, All God's Children Camp, and St. Matthias Roof and Parsonage Fund. We also offer the Lorraine Sperlazza Scholarship for a young lady pursuing post-high school education. We serve and provide food for several funerals and other Church Socials.
All women are welcome and may become a member if she chooses to join and to commit herself to the purpose of the organization. UMW participates through giving, prayer, study, action and service.
Feel free to contact any of the officers below for information or if you wish to give a presentation.
