Rev. Bert Cloud
Rev. Bert Cloud is the father of Trae (18), Danielle (14), and Kayana (13), and has been married to Rev. Gina Anderson- Cloud for 28 years.
Pastor Bert is a follower of Jesus Christ whose passion for ministry has been to serve as a companion and guide for the spiritual journey of diverse people loved by God. The central goal of his ministry has been the loving advancement of God’s kingdom by focusing on living and proclaiming the love of God and being part of the ministry of restoration and healing. Bert’s pastoral vision and practice have been formed in the great commandment (Luke 10:27), the great commission (Matthew 28:19-20), and the great requirement (Micah 6:8).
Before entering the ministry, Pastor Bert was a Nationally Certified School Psychologist last serving as the Sr. Psychologist for Campbell County Schools in Central Virginia. Bert also held several leadership positions in the Virginia Psychological Association and the Virginia Academy of School Psychologists.
Bert earned a Master of Divinity in 2002 from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University where he was a Margaret A. Pitts Scholar. At Emory, Pastor Bert received the John D. and Alice Slay Award for Academic Performance and Promise in Pastoral Ministry and was elected to Omicron Delta Kappa (Leadership) and Theta Phi (Theology) honor societies.
Bert has served a variety of church and community sizes and previously was the Co-Sr. Pastor of Warwick Memorial United Methodist Church in Newport News. District and Conference leadership includes extensive experience in mentoring new clergy, and he coordinates a group of provisional clergy members working toward ordination.
Among other roles, Pastor Bert has previously served as Superintendency Committee Chair, pastoral care faculty for the conference licensing school, Lay Speaker/Servant teacher, Walk to Emmaus Spiritual Director, and UMVIM missioner and leader. Bert has been part of spiritual formation and soul care ministries including the Upper Room’s Academy of Spiritual Formation and a contemplative prayer network in Virginia known as the Kindred Project. Bert is a member of Christians in the Visual Arts and the Fellowship of United Methodist Spiritual Directors and Retreat Leaders.
Bert treasures time with his family and enjoys photography, biking, hiking, cooking, and writing.
